The Great Divide
by G. Matthew Prellwitz
Illinois
Run and hide from the outbreak of the evening,
Be aware but keep a distance far and high.
Unshielded eyes blink only to what is handed out,
When no one stops to ask or wonder why.
Why oh why? Why this instant information? Why we must reply?
Inside of this country lies a Great Divide
An urban army of the boom of Generation Why
Coincides to stop this man from making our eyes blind
So find your own way to live your life and build your mind.
Business is high,
When you’re purchasing your politics,
And there’s no more pride or freedom left to buy.
A swelling pride,
Leads only to more ignorance,
Of which we aren’t aware and don’t wonder why.
Because you’ll soon be told, and then your story sold,
It’s nothing old just falsely bold placed alibi’s.
Inside of this country lies a Great Divide
An urban army of the boom of Generation Why
Coincides to stop this man from making our eyes blind
So find your own way to live your life and build your mind.
At a time when all true reality is hard to perceive,
The average mind is intertwined with world’s of make-believe.
Like, believe or not, we’ve got the power to stop, drop, and roll to rhythm that be:
Fresh to death
So take a breath
Because when there’s nothing left
Will you regret?
Or would you punch your chest
When losing breath,
Or would you be trying every second to breathe?
This is a sweet song!! It is by one of my favorite artists in the Midwest, Midwest Hype!!! They have a lot of great songs about what it is to be a twenty-something of our generation.
